Tropenbos Ghana awards winners of Green Ghana essay competition

Ahead of the Green Ghana project day, Tropenbos Ghana and partners organized an essay competition for pupils of the Apaaso D/A Junior High School at Kintampo in the Bono East Region. The theme for the competition was “Importance of trees in our environment”.

Over 50 entries were received from the student population. Ten of the essays were shortlisted and the 3 top write-ups selected for award. Faka Emmanuel emerged winner and was followed by Opoku Gabriel in 2nd position. Opoku Priscilla came in third. All three students received cash prizes, certificates, exercise books, Tropenbos Ghana branded T-shirts, and tree seedlings to be planted and nurtured. The remaining seven (7) finalists were also given exercise books, T-shirts, and tree seedlings to plant and nurture.

The essay competition was made possible through the support of our partners; Tropenbos International, GIZ, European Union, NORAD, WWF, and IUCN. The Director of Tropenbos Ghana, Mrs. Mercy Owusu Ansah congratulated the students for participating in the essay competition and urged them to join the action targeted at mitigating climate change. She called on the students to nurture trees planted around their school and their homes.

Headteacher of Apaadu D/A, Mr. Francis Aduum expressed gratitude to Tropenbos Ghana for selecting the school for the essay competition and tree planting excercise.
