Environmental NGOs Tropenbos Ghana and EcoCare Ghana, partners implementing the European Union funded Landscapes and Environmental Agility across the Nation (LEAN) project in the transition landscape have donated thirty nine thousand (39,000) indigenous and fruit tree seedlings to the Bono East Regional office of Forestry Commission.

Traditional leaders appeal for reclamation bond for small-scale miners

Some traditional leaders in the Asante Akim Central Municipal and Amansie West District in the Ashanti region are advocating the introduction of reclamation bond in the small-scale mining sector. This they believe will foster the restoration of degraded mine sites and effectively deal with the destruction of lands.

Ghana must deepen discussion on climate change policy

The Mobilizing More for Climate (MoMo4C), a project of Tropenbos Ghana, has asked stakeholders to advocate and influence various policies in communities to help address climate change related issues. Mr Evans Sampene, the Project Coordinator, intimated this while addressing stakeholder groups at a training workshop on advocacy and policy influence on climate change at Sefwi-Wiawso in the Western North Region.

Initiative to Conserve Biodiversity, Build Climate Resilience, and Reduce Emissions from Land-use launched

The European Union’s flagship Global Climate Change Alliance+ (GCCA+) initiative, Landscapes and Environmental Agility across the Nation (LEAN) project has been launched in Accra, Ghana. The launch took place on May 11, 2021. The programme was attended by a delegation from the EU, Directors from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, Ministry of Food and Agriculture, and the Forestry Commission. Other stakeholders who participated in the launch included traditional authorities, the media and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).

Workshop to Validate the Priority Climate Action Plan in Juabeso-Bia and Sefwi-Wiawso landscape

The Juabeso-Bia and Sefwi-Wiawso Landscape (JBSW) in the Western North Region of Ghana is located in the High Forest Zone and has considerable levels of biodiversity. However, the landscape faces the threats of deforestation and forest degradation, which compromise the livelihoods of forest adjacent communities and the general population.
